This role supports the education and credential activities of the SOA, continually developing pertinent content, both foundational and advanced, to ensure the integrity of the SOA’s credentials. 

Responsibilities & Duties

Participates in the review of current and/or development of new content for pre-qualification FSA track-specific module including: 

  • Participate in committee review of modules content, including readings, learning objectives and outcomes for topics in the CFE track. Since the Advanced Topics for CFE is being updated now, these objectives may change as the project progresses:
    • Understand heavy tailed, medium tailed and light tailed risks by evaluating risk loss studies
    • Construct a high-level risk model and discuss limitations and parameters of EVT
    • Apply EVT tools in a real-life business environment
    • Evaluate the use of EVT on extreme-case operational risks such as business disruption risks 
    • Explain limitations regarding pooling of extreme-case operational risks such as business disruption risks
    • Understand what is meant by strategic thinking
    • Determine strategic questions related to Business Sustainability and Corporate Governance
    • Evaluate scenarios including scenarios for EVT events
    • Develop a strategic plan
    • Evaluate the impact of a strategic plan on the financial statement and capital resources of an entity
    • Evaluate the strategic plan under different scenarios including EVT scenarios

Experience Required

  • Must be FSA
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: Strategic business plans, EVT models or Risk-loss studies

Travel Required

Minimum; attendance at the face-to-face meeting is the only planned travel commitment.
