How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?

This role supports the education and credentialing activities of the SOA, in particular the item writing for the Statistics for Risk Modeling exam, to ensure the integrity of the SOA’s credentials.

Responsibilities & Duties

The SOA is looking for volunteers to support Exam SRM (Statistics for Risk Modeling), a three-and-a-half-hour exam consisting of 35 multiple-choice questions. Volunteers will be familiar with the assigned syllabus and exam materials and write items generally twice each year. 

The responsibilities and duties will include:

           Reading and understanding the assigned syllabus material

           Developing high-quality exam items and solutions

(typically 6 – 8 items per session)

           Reviewing items written by other writers

           Attending item review sessions (may be in-person, virtual, or hybrid)

           Working reliably with committee leadership

           Maintaining confidentiality in accordance with the SOA Education Confidentiality Agreement

Time Commitment/Hours

11-20 hours

Time Commitment - Description *

10 to 20 hours per exam cycle, plus 2-day item review meeting per exam cycle.

Experience Required - Designation

Member ASA or FSA

Experience Required - Description

               Must be FSA or Career ASA (not pursing the CERA or FSA nor planning to take any SOA exams, assessments or seminars that are part of those requirements)

               Familiarity or working knowledge of material covered by syllabus
