This role supports the foundational education and credential activities of the SOA and helps to ensure the integrity of the SOA’s credentials 

Description:

Graders are expected to commit to grading 20-30 hours during initial grading in January of 2021 and take part in a 2-day virtual grading meeting in February. Grading can be performed from home or work; access to candidate papers will be via a dedicated grader portal.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the Predictive Analytics in R/RStudio environment
  • Willingness to learn use of Grading System and process for accurately entering grades and feedback, as appropriate
  • Demonstrates complete knowledge and understanding of the goals, tasks and solutions (as appropriate) for assigned assessment
  • Provides effective feedback within guidelines for failing candidates
  • Attends training (virtually or face-to-face) as necessary
  • Informs Exam Chairperson of issues
  • Informs SOA staff of times when unable to grade
  • Liaises and interfaces with: PA Exam Committee Chairperson and SOA Staff

Time Commitment

  • 20-30 hours plus participating in a 2-day virtual grading meeting.

Experience Required

  • Must be FSA or Career ASA (5+ years as ASA and not pursuing the FSA designation)
  • Demonstrates proficiency in technical and analytic problem solving (graders are exposed to a wide variety of topics and solutions and must be flexible enough to competently review)
  • Proficient in the understanding of RStudio RMD files
  • Graders are also expected to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in effective communication (writing feedback)

*Optional: Ability to read/grade papers written in French

Members resident in U.S and Canada only

Travel Required

  • Due to the Covid-19 virus the in-person grading meeting has been temporarily moved to a virtual format therefore no travel is required.

SOA Training Required

New graders are trained via online reading material, sample paper grading and an optional conference call with the grading chair.
