Description:

Responsibilities & Duties

The Leadership & Development Section is always on the lookout for volunteers who would like to share their expertise on leadership, career and personal development topics in our widely read publication, The Stepping Stone. This is a great way for you to share a leadership topic that you are passionate about or a personal leadership story that is relatable to others.

Selected authors will need to follow these requirements:

  • Suggest a topic / area of interest and discuss it with our editor (John Hadley, John@JHACareers.com). (We can brainstorm with you on this, if needed.)
  • Submit an article from 500 – 2,000 words in length. (We can also accommodate longer articles, broken into parts as a series over several issues.)
  • Reviews of important leadership, career and personal development books are also acceptable as articles.
  • Secure permission for any material reprinted or adapted from an outside source.
  • We will provide editing / suggestions, and ensure it matches the SOA “style.”
  • Once approved, you will be asked to sign a Copyright License Agreement giving permission for publication, and to complete a simple Metadata form to optimize its search-ability.

Time Commitment

  • We have submission deadlines at different times during the year so you can plan your work around whichever best fits your schedule.
  • Approximately 5–10 hours per article
  • Depending on the length of article, the content, the research required and the time needed to obtain any corporate and copyright permissions, the time commitment may be more or less than listed above.

Experience Required

  • No formal experience required but author should be knowledgeable in the subject matter of the article.
  • Both SOA members and non-members may apply.
