This position connects actuaries with pre-ASA candidates in a virtual environment for networking and career advice for the next generation of the actuarial profession. The chat-based event platform allows volunteers to connect one-on-one or in multiple conversations in a quick one-hour lunchtime format.
Responsibilities & Duties
The Society of Actuaries (SOA) is seeking experienced actuaries to participate in its first “Ask the Actuary” Virtual Networking Event on Thursday, June 21 from 1pm - 2pm EDT.
The “Ask the Actuary” event brings together actuarial professionals and pre-ASA candidates to discuss the profession and the ASA and FSA career path - all from the comfort of their own desks.
We’re looking for volunteers from all areas of the industry to chat with candidates about their experiences. Topics will include predictive analytics, life, health, education, investments, retirement, and career changers, but we welcome your ideas for other topics!
For this event, we will be partnering with Gamma Iota Sigma, an international business fraternity for students of insurance, risk management and actuarial science.
Gamma’s online portal will allow for candidates to have five minute chats with representatives from employers and practicing actuaries. Each “booth” or chat room (themed around industry specialties) can have multiple reps in it- which would allow the candidates a choice in who to talk to. This is not a job fair - it’s being marketed as a lunchtime networking event between actuaries and pre-ASA candidates.

- Must be an FSA or ASA with at least 6 months of work experience
