This role supports the education and credential activities of the SOA, in particular the question writing and grading for the Individual Life and Annuities (ILA) FSA track exams.
Responsibilities and duties:
The SOA is looking for actuaries with experience in Individual Life and Annuities (ILA) or related areas to write questions for the new ILA: Financial Management Exam (both US and Canada versions) which is set to be administered for the first time in the Spring of 2020.
- Participate in drafting and reviewing questions for examinations
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the SOA Education Confidentiality Agreement
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Writing questions for the exams gives volunteers priority when selecting graders for the exams, should they want to grade as well.
* Volunteer candidates must not have family members / significant others currently taking ILA exams
Time Commitment
- 21-40 hours per year
- Approximately 20 hours per year plus additional travel time to meetings
Experience Required
- Must be FSA
- Experience with at least part of the ILA exam syllabus preferred
Opportunity Location
U.S. and Canada
Travel Required
Attend two to four on-site meetings per year in North America.
SOA Training Required
Must attend one in-person Item Writer Training (IWT) before helping with item writing.
Next IWT session to be held in mid-August in Brooklyn or possibly another location (exact location not final yet).
