“ Please note that volunteer activities are facilitated independently by the Conference Board of Mathematical Sciences (CBMS). While we aim to support a positive experience for all participants, the Society of Actuaries does not oversee or manage all aspects of this external engagement. While we hope to include a match that works for you, we don't want you to know that placement is guaranteed. Matching is dependent on a variety of factors, including geographic location and current program needs. “
How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?
This role supports the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and the Year of Mathematics initiative by promoting financial literacy and mathematical understanding within communities. Volunteers deliver interactive workshops that connect actuarial concepts—such as risk, probability, and financial decision-making—to real-life applications. By helping participants better understand wealth, risk, and value, this role advances public awareness of actuarial thinking and strengthens the profession’s societal impact. Additionally, it helps position actuaries as leaders in financial education and risk management while inspiring future interest in mathematics and actuarial careers.
