The student research case study challenge develops future actuaries around the world at the university level. The case study challenge team is a mix of actuaries in academia and business from around the world who develop and judge research case study submissions from small teams of university students from around the world.
Responsibilities & Duties
Help to generate and select ideas for case studies.
Help to write or feedback on writing of the case study.
Help develop data or feedback on data developed for the case study.
Judge student submissions
Time Commitment
September through January: weekly 1-hour team calls (or participate via email), and 1-2 hours between calls in some weeks, but not all weeks, to prepare for the next weekly call.
March-April: judge submissions in 3 rounds of grading. Final round is 6 finalist teams doing 1-hour presentation and Q&A of their work via web conference, which are recorded for judges unable to participate live.
Experience Required
Member ASA or FSA
General understanding of actuarial concepts and the ability to evaluate the quality, creativity, and clarity of submissions from an actuarial perspective. All work is conducted in English, and student submissions are required in English.
