Description:

How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?

Volunteers for the Technology Forum will exchange views on emerging technology success and learning in order to provide guidance on practical technology tools and their usefulness to the profession. The essence of the discussion will be captured and later published as a research paper for the benefit of the profession.

Responsibilities & Duties

Share insights and experiences of technology solutions used with peers.  Provide context on issues and technological solutions used to fit business needs.  Expected to review open-ended questions prior to conference calls and provide input during the calls. The length of the calls will be based on the topic selected.

The first topic will be on Database and Storage and the associated tools. Later topics could include:

  • Custodial duties of actuarial data (e.g., balance between retention policy and long tail experience studies, access rights)
  • Operation model, team structure and duties (e.g., mix of actuaries and non-actuaries, mix of in-house vs. external expertise)
  • Tool selection (e.g., low code ETL, data visualization…)

Please note that the SOA will monitor the conversations to ensure the discussions are not violating anti-trust policies in the USA or other jurisdictions. The SOA will also take notes that will serve as the basis for a report on current practices in the industry.

Time Commitment

  • 5 to 15 hours
  • Majority of time will be spent reviewing materials and participating on conference calls.
