Description:

How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?

This role supports the research activities of the SOA Research Institute, providing actuaries with valuable up-to-the-minute data on General Insurance related issues, enabling them to make more informed and accurate decisions.

Responsibilities & Duties

We are seeking individuals to serve as members of this Project Oversight Group (POG) who will oversee the Project and work closely with the research team to review the acceptability of Project deliverables.  The POG will also provide feedback or suggestions as appropriate regarding the progressing research.

This Project looks to develop a practical quantitative framework for identifying, modeling and pricing cyber risks in a smart home ecosystem. The proposed study will highlight:

  • Cyber risks in a smart home ecosystem to be studied from an insurer’s perspective, discussing how to transform the risks identified from the security perspective into insurable risks.
  • The project will aim to develop a practical probabilistic approach to pricing cyber risks over networks. The results can not only be used by insurance companies but can also motivate further studies on cyber risk modeling by actuarial professionals.
  • The study is practical and can be adapted to accommodate related scenarios, and the project will further create sample insurance policies as a guide.

Time Commitment

  • 11-20 Hours
  • Most time will be spent reviewing project deliverables by e-mail.  It is anticipated there will be 2-3 Conference Calls to get group feedback from the POG for the research team.
