How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?
The SOA is starting up a research project entitled "Aging and the Role of Private Insurance under Universal Health Coverage: Lessons from Singapore". This project is being researched by University of Southern California's Center for Economic and Social Research, with primary researchers Dr. Joanne Yoong and Dr. Jeremy Burke. The goal of the research is to how current private life and health insurance products operate in Singapore; to see what lessons and opportunities can be drawn to other countries who have or are considering universal health coverage; and to highlight opportunities for actuaries in developing new solutions.
Responsibilities & Duties
Project Oversight Group: Review progress and drafts from the researcher for comment and direction; Work with SOA staff and researcher to provide feedback; Add perspective from a practitioner point of view to the project; Assist in suggesting dissemination strategy for completed work.
Time Commitment
- 5 to 10 hours
- Generally 1 hour per month for the duration of the project, which is expected to be approximately 6 months. Time will be spent reviewing report draft and providing comments and input during a monthly conference call with the research team.
