How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?
Works with the ATPA exam committee to develop ATPA assessments and grading rubrics for each ATPA assessment administration. Confirms alignment between ATPA module objectives and the assessment. Regularly reviews assessment using candidate performance data, grader metrics, feedback, and pass rates.
Responsibilities & Duties
  • Reviews and recommends ATPA module updates due to changes/developments in actuarial practice, external forces, readings/resource materials.
  • Performs research to identify datasets and business cases appropriate for ATPA assessment.
  • Drafts ATPA assessment tasks, including grading rubrics and grader guidance for those tasks
  • Demonstrates complete knowledge and understanding of the goals, tasks and solutions for assigned assessment.
  • Assists with grading ATPA assessments during three annual assessment cycles
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the ATPA syllabus, assessment material, and ATPA modules.
  • Maintains confidentiality in accordance with the SOA Education Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Liaise with: ATPA exam committee chairperson(s), Other ATPA exam committee members, ATPA Graders, and SOA staff
  • Attends meetings and grader training calls
  • Adheres to SOA Volunteer and Confidentiality Agreements
  • Understanding of Predictive Analytics.
  • Ability to use R and/or Python to perform predictive analytics workflows.
  • FSA member in good standing with the SOA.
  • General understanding of SOA Education System.
  • Ability to work independently and adhere to deadlines.
  • Possess initiative, creativity, and effective communication and organizational skills.
Time Commitment/Hours
61-80 hours
Time Commitment - Description *
60-70 hours per year.  Time commitment will vary depending on each individual’s experience with exam development, predictive analytics and statistical analysis tools.
