How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?
The role supports the research activities of the Cardiovascular and Future Mortality research project sponsored by the Mortality and Longevity Research Program Steering Committee. The project will help to provide actuaries with valuable up-to-date information on U.S. cardiovascular disease mortality and mortality improvement trends and historical drivers and factors influencing cardiovascular disease. Examples of drivers include but are not limited to certain medical procedures, diet, low levels of smoking, and other drivers. The researcher would examine the differences in recent trends (2010 to current) with past trends and discuss reasons for the slowing of cardiovascular disease mortality improvement. The Project Oversight Group helps to ensure a quality SOA research product that will educate and inform actuaries and others on the cardiovascular and future mortality research project.
Responsibilities & Duties
The Project Oversight Group will:
- Provide guidance in the form of experience, expertise and knowledge for a study that will provide insights into current U.S. cardiovascular disease mortality and mortality improvement trends and historical drivers.
- Develop the project scope, develop materials to hire researchers, and set expectations in collaboration with researcher.
- Review draft material and provide feedback to researcher and advise on appropriate forms of dissemination of the results.
Time Commitment
- 21-40 hours
- Research project normally lasts 6-9 months. Time commitment and number of hours-3 hours per month for a six-to-nine months period including 1-hour conference calls.
