This role supports the research activities of the SOA, providing actuaries with valuable up-to-the-minute data on climate related issues, enabling them to make more informed and accurate decisions.
Responsibilities & Duties
This research will design a robust, transparent framework that integrates qualitative insights with quantitative rigor to quantify the life and health impacts of climate-related events. The approach is tailored to support actuaries and risk managers to derive credible product-level assumptions directly from the data provided by climate scenarios.  The framework will be demonstrated through a rigorous hypothetical application to a specific product line and purpose and the research will include a practical case study applying the framework to a Life & Health insurance product line.
The Project Oversight Group (“POG”) will oversee the Project, reviewing the acceptability of Project deliverables and provide feedback or suggestions as appropriate regarding the progressing research.
Time Commitment/Hours
11-20 hours
Time Commitment - Description 
Most time will be spent reviewing project deliverables by e-mail. It is anticipated there will be monthly Conference Calls over a period of about seven months to get group feedback from the Project Oversight Group (POG) for the research team.
Experience Required - Description
Member ASA or FSA
Experience as a practicing actuary or in risk management would be helpful for overseeing this research which looks to be of value to SOA member practitioners.
