How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?

The role supports the research activities of the Joint Risk Management Research Committee and the actuarial profession. The objective is to develop a market-based insolvency prediction model to detect financially distressed insurers at an early stage. The study's results will provide new tools and additional insights for early detection of insurer insolvency, which can help to minimize the potential costs associated with the financial distress of insurance firms. 

Responsibilities & Duties

Provide guidance in the form of insights, experience, expertise and knowledge for a study that will provide new tools and additional insights for early detection of insurance insolvency based on the proposed model's results. Project Oversight Group will finalize project scope and set expectations in collaboration with researcher. Review draft material and provide feedback to researcher and advise on appropriate forms of dissemination of the results. 

Time Commitment

  • 21 to 40 hours
  • Research project normally lasts 6-9 months. Time commitment and number of hours 3 hours per month for a six to nine-month period including 1-hour conference calls. 

Experience Required

  • Member ASA or FSA
  • Risk Management Experience
