How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?
This role supports the research activities of the SOA, providing actuaries with valuable up-to-the-minute data on climate related issues, enabling them to make more informed and accurate decisions.
Responsibilities & Duties
Populations in areas affected by climate-induced migration are likely to change, indicating different levels of insurance demand and supply. This objectives of this research are to: ▪ Assess the direct and indirect effects of climate-induced migration on the supply and demand for P&C insurance market products and prices. ▪ To identify the most vulnerable regions that are disproportionately affected by climate-induced migration. ▪ To explore the impact of regulatory frictions that likely influence the impact of climate-induced migration on insurance market outcomes. ▪ To propose possible product features for insurers to mitigate the negative impact of climate-induced migration. The Project Oversight Group (“POG”) will oversee the Project and work closely with the research team to review the acceptability of Project deliverables. The POG will also provide feedback or suggestions as appropriate regarding the progressing research.

Most time will be spent reviewing project deliverables by e-mail. It is anticipated there will be 3-4 Conference Calls to get group feedback from the POG for the research team.
