How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?
This role supports candidates on their path to becoming an ASA. APC Facilitators provide young professional guidance and valuable insight by sharing their experience through case studies discussion and presentations.
Responsibilities & Duties
For APC:
• For Virtual APC: Facilitate a half-day course including case study discussions using an online meeting platform.
 Responsibilities & Duties: Specific responsibilities include:
• Lead APC Learning sessions and case study discussions. Teaching guides are provided.
• APC Facilitators present with the provided script and PowerPoint slides.
Time Commitment - Description 
Time Commitment: Facilitators are asked to familiarize themselves with the faculty manual, case studies, and instructions provided by SOA staff before participating in training and before each assigned session.
•  A virtual APC runs for 2.5 - 3 hour sessions. Generally, we ask APC facilitators to participate in two or three APCs per year (either virtual or in person).

Experience Required - Description
Qualifications: Facilitators are recruited from the ranks of experienced actuaries who agree to undergo training in the case study method. Facilitators must be excellent listeners, willing to let all ideas be discussed without intervening authoritatively, and willing to let the case study process work. Strong facilitators typically have recent experience leading to an awareness of the subtleties and overtones in the ethics cases. Facilitators who possess a combination of experience, awareness of current issues, and a willingness to let the groups work out their own solutions have proven to be very effective. Facilitators must also be:
• An FSA with around 10-years of post-ASA experience
• A member in good standing with the SOA
• Compliant with SOA’s Volunteer Agreement
• Compliant with SOA CPD requirements unless they have a status of “retired”

SOA Training Required
Training: Each new facilitator must be trained initially by attending an in-person session and working with an assigned faculty mentor(s). Observing a virtual session prior to facilitating a virtual session is also recommended.
