This role supports the foundational education and credential activities of the SOA and helps to ensure the integrity of the SOA’s credentials 

Description:

Graders are expected to commit to grading over two sessions (early January through early February and early July through early August).  Access to candidate papers will be via a dedicated online grader portal and initial grading can be performed anywhere the grader has secure internet access. We ask all graders to commit to remain on the team for at least one year (two exam sessions).  Individuals should

  • Possess knowledge and understanding of the R/RStudio environment
  • Understand the learning objectives for the Predictive Analytics Exam
  • Have a willingness to learn use of Grading System and process for accurately entering grades and feedback, as appropriate
  • Demonstrate complete knowledge and understanding of the goals, tasks and solutions (as appropriate) for assigned assessment
  • Possess excellent written communication skills for use in providing feedback for failing candidates
  • Attend training (virtually) as necessary
  • Inform PA Exam Chairperson of issues
  • Liaise and interface with: PA Exam Chairperson and SOA Staff

Time Commitment

  • 75-100 hours (37 – 50 per session)

Experience Required

  • Must be FSA or Career ASA (no intention of taking further exams and agreeing to not take exams for twelve months after leaving committee)
  • Demonstrates proficiency in technical and analytic problem solving (graders are exposed to a wide variety of topics and solutions and must be flexible enough to competently review)
  • Proficient in the understanding of RStudio RMD files
  • Graders are also expected to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in effective communication (writing feedback)

*Optional: Ability to read/grade papers written in French

Opportunity Location

Members resident in U.S and Canada only
Travel Required

  • Attendance at two-day grading meetings in late January-early February and late July-early August. This is a requirement to grade a session.
  • Travel expenses are reimbursed by the SOA, within current guidelines.

SOA Training Required

New graders are trained via online reading material, sample paper grading and a conference call with the grading chair.
