How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?
The role supports the Society of Actuaries Research Institute’s efforts in producing research examining the impact of COVID-19 and other major causes of death on future mortality levels and trends in mortality improvement. The research results would help regulators, actuaries and risk managers determine what range of assumptions might be considered to help further ensure the stability of private and public insurance programs. The results will also have the intent to highlight thought leadership to the public from the actuarial profession and mortality experts.
Responsibilities & Duties

Focus would be on their expectations for 2022, 2023, 2024 and longer term. While major causes of death will be considered, among the COVID-19 aspects to be considered are:
- Direct vs. indirect impacts of COVID-19, including Long-COVID and other impacts
- Questions around future infection/reinfection rates, fatality rates, vaccine take-up, etc.
