How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession? 

This role supports the research activities of the SOA Research Institute, providing actuaries with valuable up-to-the-minute data on climate risk related issues, enabling them to make more informed and accurate decisions.

Responsibilities & Duties

Some of the tasks of the committee include:

  • Create the quarterly newsletter, highlighting Program research as well as external research and serving as a forum for Program committee members to author topics of interest.
  • Promote the use of the SOA Hub platform https://hub.soa.org (using SOA Login Credentials) and Facilitate engaging posts to the SOA Hub, particularly the Climate Risk group.
  • Coordinate semi-annual SOA Research Call-in Hour Catastrophe & Climate Program highlighting a review of research and opportunities
  • Collaborate with the SOA Marketing Department to develop the Program communication strategy.
    • Make our audience aware of Program research.  Consider the best ways of communicating with our audience.
  • Review and maintain the Catastrophe and Climate | SOA webpage, to ensure it continues to be easy for visitors to find information, and for the committee to keep the resources up to date
  • Review scorecards and other analytics, to determine where additional promotion is needed
  • Recruit and assign spokespersons for individual projects and overall Program.

Time Commitment

  • Likely 2-4 hours per month.
  • One year term, which can be renewed.
  • A combination of committee calls and work of the committee to be determined.

Experience Required

ASA, FSA, or other relevant professional background is preferred
