Description:

How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?
In this curriculum committee role, you will ensure that future actuaries receive cutting-edge training in organizational management, capital structures, financial reporting, managerial accounting, emerging technologies, and value creation and optimization. By shaping these courses, you will help prepare candidates to succeed not only in traditional insurance settings, but also in industries and roles where actuaries have not historically been hired. Your contributions towards enhancing the case studies and real-world applications will make a positive impact on the candidates’ critical thinking, adaptability, and leadership skills — directly supporting SOA’s commitment to developing forward-thinking professionals prepared to navigate complex business environments.

Responsibilities & Duties
Define and Update Curriculum Content: Align exam and study materials with evolving industry standards, incorporating topics from corporate finance, enterprise risk management, and strategic decision-making. Develop & Review Case Studies: Integrate real-world scenarios that reflect current regulatory landscapes, financial innovations, and complex risk considerations, ensuring that candidates learn to apply theoretical insights in practical contexts. Collaborate Across Committees: Work closely with other SOA committees and subject matter experts to ensure the curriculum remains relevant, rigorous, and consistent with overarching educational objectives. Promote Professional Growth: Continuously refine course goals to help candidates develop critical thinking, strategic leadership, and advanced financial acumen required in modern actuarial and business roles.
