Join the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and the students o NIU for a dynamic, one-hour volunteer engagement. This event features an SOA moderator who will lead the discussion, allowing you and other actuarial professionals to connect, share your career journeys, and inspire the next generation of actuarial talent. 
Responsibilities & Duties

Professional Dialogue: Engage with SOA moderator staff to answer questions regarding your actuarial career path, daily responsibilities, and industry trends.

Peer Collaboration: Share the floor with fellow actuaries to provide a diverse range of perspectives on the profession.

Student Mentorship: Participate in a live Q&A session with NIU  college students, offering guidance on exams, internships, and the transition from classroom to career.

Knowledge Sharing: Ensure the integrity of the profession by discussing the importance of SOA credentials and foundational skills.
 

Time Commitment/Hours

This is a one-time, one-day volunteer commitment.

Total Duration: Approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

Experience Required - Description

 We are seeking practicing actuarial professionals (ASA or FSA) who are passionate about the field of actuaries. 

Beyond technical expertise, we are looking for volunteers who are:

  • Open and Authentic: Willing to share the highs and lows of their personal career journey, from their first internship to their current leadership role.
  • SOA Journey Guides: Able to speak about the exam process, the transition through different credentialing tiers, and how the SOA community has supported their professional growth.
  • Relatable Communicators:  Sharing the lessons learned from early-career mistakes and the skills that truly made a difference in the real world.
Opportunity Location
NIU (DeKalb, Illinois)
Travel Required
 Local Travel Only. We are looking for ILbased actuarial professionals who can commute to the NIU campus in Dekalb. 
SOA Training Required
No prior training required, but be open to sharing your career journey  to college students.
