How does this role benefit the broader actuarial profession?
The Joint CAS/SOA Committee on Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity supports the actuarial profession by advancing strategies that increase diversity across the candidate pipeline and membership. Volunteers contribute to developing initiatives that promote inclusion, strengthen outreach to underrepresented students and educators, and enhance professional development opportunities within the field. This work helps ensure the profession remains innovative, representative, and responsive to evolving societal needs.
What professional benefits will a volunteer gain from this role?
Volunteers will expand their professional networks by collaborating with CAS and SOA leaders, subject-matter experts, and affinity organizations. Participants will gain leadership experience through involvement in strategic initiatives and working groups, build skills in DEI strategy and program development, and increase their visibility within the actuarial profession. This role also offers meaningful opportunities to influence the future direction of inclusion efforts across the profession.
Responsibilities & Duties
-Identify and implement strategies to advance equity, inclusion, and diversity across the actuarial pipeline and profession
-Develop short- and long-term goals with measurable outcomes within working groups
-Collaborate with subject matter experts and partner organizations (e.g., Actuarial Foundation, Gamma Iota Sigma, affinity groups)
-Support and execute initiatives through Be An Actuary and related programs
-Advise on best practices for tracking and monitoring diversity-related data
-Provide reporting and insights to SOA and CAS leadership on DEI progress
-Participate in working groups and contribute to program and campaign execution

Travel Required
Virtual (U.S. & Canada) with occasional in-person engagement opportunities.  Volunteers may have the opportunity to attend one in-person meeting per year (e.g., JCIED Symposium). Additional optional participation in events or exhibits may be available but is not required.
Travel Reimbursement
Approved travel expenses for SOA-sponsored in-person meetings may be reimbursed in accordance with SOA travel guidelines. Reimbursable expenses may include coach airfare (or equivalent transportation), standard lodging, meals within policy limits, and reasonable travel-related costs. Personal expenses, upgrades, and extended stays are not reimbursable.
Experience Required – Designation
Member ASA or FSA
Experience Required – Description -Please attach a CV or resume -An interview may be required
  • Strong interest or experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
  • Familiarity with the actuarial education system and professional environment
  • Ability to collaborate across organizations (SOA, CAS, and external partners)
  • Experience in strategic planning, program development, or volunteer engagement preferred
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
