Responsibilities & Duties

Graders are expected to commit to consistently grade (on average) 1-2 hours per month, which equates to 10-20 submissions per week.  The length of this position is one year.   

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of assessment grading in the SOA Learning Management System (LMS) and process for accurately entering grades and feedback.
  • Demonstrates complete knowledge and understanding of the goals, tasks and solutions for assigned assessment
  • Responsible for maintaining personal grading schedule
    • Selects submissions from the grading queue and assigns a grade in a timely fashion
    • Communicates grading availability via the online grading Commitment Calendar
    • Attends virtual training sessions as necessary
  • Completes Standard SOA Volunteer Training Module(s) and Agreements
  • Ensures that all e-Learning Materials are kept confidential and private
  • Provides effective feedback for failing candidates using grading rubrics and scoring documents
  • Informs Grading Chair of issues
  • Liaises with Assessment Grading Chair, Assessment Graders and SOA Staff

Time Commitment

  • 1-2 hours per month for one year

Experience Required

  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or Career ASA (5+ years as ASA and not pursuing the FSA designation)
  • Demonstrates effective written communication skills in English and/or French
  • Demonstrate proficiency in technical and analytic problem solving across a wide variety of topics

Technology Required

Desktop or laptop computer with the latest internet browsers.

Grading on mobile devices is not supported.
