Participates in the content development, review, and revision for one or more of the following FAP modules:

1. Model Selection and Solution Design

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Develops, reviews, and revises module content during review/revision cycles as assigned.
  •   Recommends changes to keep the module up to date to reflect changes/developments in actuarial practice, external forces, and readings/resource materials.
  • Maintains confidentiality in accordance with the SOA Education Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Participates in one Central Review per year (covered by the SOA).
  • Liaise and interface with:

o FAP Module Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson.

o Other Module Committee Members.

o SOA Staff

Time Commitment/Hours
  • Up to one hundred hours per year
  • May be higher during review/revision cycles requiring significant content changes
  • Three year Term

FSA or career ASA and active member of the SOA

  •        Periodic e-Learning planning and working group conference calls.

Required competencies (knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the volunteer job):

The FAP Module Committee Member demonstrates proficiency in each of the eight core competency areas listed below with specific focus on effective communication (writing, in particular), relationship management and interpersonal collaboration (teamwork, project management), external forces and industry knowledge (to ensure relevant and up-to-date content) , technical skills and analytical problem solving (to ensure content accuracy), professional values.

1. Professional Values: Maintain current and thorough understanding of the subject matter; act in accordance with volunteer confidentiality agreement.

2. Communication: Demonstrate effective listening, writing and speaking skills in informal and formal volunteer settings.

3. External forces and industry knowledge: Respond to changes in the environment (cultural/social values, demographics, governmental influences, economic/business environments, other) by identifying and incorporating the implications of the changes into content or assessments.

4. Leadership: Meet commitments; initiate and inspire other volunteers; mentor and coach volunteer direct reports.

5. Relationship management and interpersonal collaboration: Be an active member of the team; understand varying work styles and preferences; work together towards common goal.

6. Technical skills and analytic problem solving: Apply actuarial knowledge, skills and judgment to develop and deliver accurate content/assessments/grades.

7. Strategic insight and integration: Proactively contribute to continued evolution of ASA and FSA e-Learning; understand and respond to stakeholder (candidate, member, employer, volunteer) needs; anticipate trends and how to apply to content/assessments/grading.

8. Results-oriented solutions: Participate in e-Learning decision making; implement recommendations.
