How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?
This role supports the outreach and education mission of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) by connecting practicing actuaries with students who are exploring careers in the actuarial field. Through panel discussions and personal engagement, volunteers help demystify the profession and provide practical guidance on exams, internships, and career development. These efforts encourage students to become SOA candidates and follow the SOA career path, ultimately guiding them toward earning credentials and becoming members of the SOA. By fostering early interest and providing mentorship, this role strengthens the future of the profession and enhances the visibility of the SOA within academic communities.
Responsibilities & Duties
As an honored guest speaker, this role offers actuaries the meaningful opportunity to give back to the profession by inspiring the next generation of actuarial leaders. Volunteers will participate in a one-hour student session on September 17, generously sharing their time, personal stories, and insights into the actuarial journey. By highlighting their experiences, offering exam and career advice, and explaining the value of SOA credentials, speakers will encourage students to become SOA candidates and begin their own path toward membership. This role not only supports the SOA’s mission to grow and diversify the profession, but also reflects the kindness and commitment of actuaries who are shaping its future.
