How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?

This role supports the education and credential activities of the SOA, continually developing pertinent content, both foundational and advanced, to ensure the integrity of the SOA’s credentials. 

Responsibilities & Duties

Participates in the review of current and/or development of new content for pre-qualification FSA track module including: 

  • Participate in committee review of module content, including readings, learning objectives and outcomes for topics in the ERM Module. The ERM Module is required for all FSA tracks as well as the CERA designation. The following shows the current module objectives that may change as the project progresses:
    • explain what enterprise risk management (ERM) means
    • describe an ERM framework
    • identify regulatory requirements related to ERM
    • define, identify and evaluate operational risks
    • understand data issues in general, and special considerations with respect to ERM
    • describe and apply quantitative and qualitative methods for assessing risk
    • describe and apply the components of an effective economic capital model
  • Define module objectives
  • Identify source material to be used to reinforce learning
  • Develop new content, assessment questions and End of Module Exercises
  • Liaise and interface with:
    • FSA Module Chairperson
    • Other Module Committee Members
    • Section Education Liaisons (as needed)
    • SOA Staff 

Time Commitment

  • 45 - 50 hours over a period of up to one year starting in spring 2022, with time commitment varying in intensity
  • Research and develop content
  • Bi-weekly module committee teleconferences, with one in person meeting (with virtual attendance option) possible

Experience Required

  • Must be FSA member in good standing with the SOA
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively and adhere to deadlines
  • Individual should possess initiative, creativity, and strong communication and organizational skills
  • Compliant with SOA Conflict of Interest policy and Confidentiality Agreement
  • Familiarity with course of reading, nature of SOA examinations and practice area relevant to ERM is a plu
