How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?
The role supports the research activities of the Research Executive Committee’s Practice Expansion and Socially Relevant Research Request for Proposal. This project is a follow-up to the SOA’s When Black Swans Aren’t monograph. The objective of the research is to expand actuarial practice on how to identify extreme events. The researchers will produce a monograph for the actuarial profession on identifying change and the potential for extreme events.
Responsibilities & Duties
Provide guidance in the form of insights, experience, expertise and knowledge for the researchers to produce a monograph that will highlight insights from multiple times and different fields of human experience about the cognitive, informational and physical elements useful for turning hindsight into foresight and effective futures forecasting. Project Oversight Group will finalize project scope and set expectations in collaboration with researcher. Review draft material and provide feedback to researcher and advise on appropriate forms of dissemination of results.
Time Commitment
Research project normally lasts 6-9 months. Time commitment and number of hours-3 hours per month for a six to nine-month period including 1-hour conference calls.
