This role supports the research activities of the SOA Research Institute, providing actuaries with valuable up-to-the-minute data on climate risk related issues, enabling them to make more informed and accurate decisions.
Responsibilities & Duties
Some of the tasks of the committee include:
- Establish sub-committee members to be liaisons to other organizations (actuarial and non-actuarial, North American and international) and universities and keep up conversations and report back to the Catastrophe & Climate Strategic Research Program Steering Committee.
- Partner with other organizations and groups to facilitate dissemination of Catastrophe & Climate research by either participating on other organization programming or they on SOA programming
- Connect with actuaries with an interest in Catastrophe and Climate-risk and make recommendations for Program volunteers (Steering Committee annually, Sub-group volunteers, and Project Oversight Group (POG) volunteers)
- Work with SOA sections to promote Program research, find partnership opportunities, such as funding and POG member sharing. Identify Sections of interest, such as Actuary of the Future, Education and Research, Joint Risk Management Section, Investment Section, or other relevant Section based on Program research topic.
- Prioritize where to focus outreach attention, and bring recommendation to Steering Committee for confirmation, from time to time.
Time Commitment
- Likely 2-4 hours per month.
- One year term, which can be renewed.
- A combination of committee calls and work of the committee to be determined.
Experience Required
ASA, FSA, or other relevant professional background is preferred
