How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?
There is no shortage of publicly available trainings on programming languages and advanced analytics, but where to start and which ones are the best? This strategic volunteer role will be developing a set of journey maps that details the best resources available and recommends what order to take these courses in order for actuaries to learn these critical new skills and progress from a beginner to an expert. This will ensure that actuaries are leveraging the best resources available and are well positioned to drive value across organizations.
Responsibilities & Duties
This volunteer role will be on a working group for developing journey maps for actuaries wanting to learn more about the best programming and advanced analytics resources (e.g. R, Python). This working group will aim to share insights into how to select a language, and once selected, highlight the best resources for learning that language. The field of predictive analytics encompasses a wide variety of mathematical algorithms, so the working group hope to identify resources that are helpful in identifying that variety, how to make a selection and how best to learn to apply them. In particular, how actuaries can get started learning these new skills and progress from a beginner to an expert.
One of the key responsibilities will be to document their experience from working with various training material. The volunteer will help the working group accumulate various perspectives and form recommendations for the report.
