Description:

How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?

Our industry is changing, and the SOA has teamed up with start-up incubator Plug & Play to keep actuaries on the front line of innovation. The SOA has joined the ranks of Plug & Play's advisor companies and will host “office hours” with start-ups over a two-week period in April 2021. An office hour session with a startup provides an opportunity for founders and leadership of new InsurTech companies to seek the advice of SOA members as they build their companies.

Responsibilities & Duties

We're looking for SOA members to serve as advisors for these office hour sessions. Advisors need to provide feedback on a variety of topics within the actuarial field, as well as offer deep expertise and domain knowledge. If you can provide great advice to a startup in the insurance field, please apply.

Expected timeline:

  • February 22nd at 5 p.m. Central Time - SOA volunteer application deadline.
  • Early March – Selection results communicated to all applicants.
  • Mid-March – Selected advisors notified of times for April office hour sessions.
  • Early April - Advisors are notified of startup matching results and provided with InsurTech profiles. Typically, 2 SOA advisors are present at each startup advising session.
  • Mid-April - Virtual meetings take place.
  • Late April - Collect feedback from advisors.

Please note: After applying, we will send you a link to an additional questionnaire to collect information on your background and interests. This questionnaire is the final step in applying for the position.
