Be An Actuary.org hosts virtual high school actuarial events - introducing a new generation to the profession. Program volunteers allow the students to meet actuaries "virtually" to learn more about the profession.
Responsibilities & Duties
Volunteer actuaries will virtually meet and lead advanced math students through actuarial problem-solving experiences. All volunteers should be ready to talk about their path to becoming an actuary, what they like about the profession, and why a high-school student should consider the career.
The dates and times for these virtual sessions are:
Tuesday, February 1, 11:30 a.m. EST (45 min)
Wednesday, February 9, 7:00 p.m. EST (60 min)
Thursday, February 17, 3:00 p.m. EST (45 min)
Saturday, February 26, 11:30 a.m. EST (60 min)
Please indicate which date you would like to participate by entering that date in the first field on the application form titled “Describe the skills . . . “.
Time Commitment
- 4 hours or fewer
- The virtual event is 90-minutes, with a brief 30-minute training the week prior.
Experience Required
- Open to SOA Members, Non-Members and Candidates
- Familiarity with the actuarial profession and exam path. Members needed to lead the virtual table discussions, but candidates are also encouraged to apply!

- Volunteers should have a computer with good internet connection, a working microphone, and camera.
SOA Training Required
Training will be provided on the problem-solving questions - held approximately one week prior. All volunteers will also receive an answer guide for the online event.
