Responsibilities & Duties
Volunteers help to ensure a quality SOA research product, which results in providing the profession reliable and practical tools/information. This role would support the SOA Structured Settlement Subgroup in the development of new Statutory Valuation Mortality Tables for Structured Settlements. The volunteer would work with the latest set of experience data to develop the table, specifically in the area of graduating/smoothing the final mortality rates. Traditional graduation techniques, i.e., Whittaker-Henderson, and/or statistical modeling techniques, i.e., multivariate regression, will be used.
Time Commitment
- 61-80 hours
- The volunteer would meet about 2 times per month over a 12–18-month timeframe with the subgroup in virtual meetings reviewing the various aspects of the table development. The remainder of the time would be spent working on their own time to perform the graduation/smoothing.
Experience Required
Member ASA or FSA
Experience working with Excel pivot tables, traditional graduation techniques and multivariate analysis is required. A member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) is desired.
