Description:

How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?
This role supports the research activities of the SOA Research Institute, providing actuaries with valuable up-to-the-minute data on climate related issues, enabling them to make more informed and accurate decisions.
Responsibilities & Duties
The Project Oversight Group (“POG”) will oversee the Project and work closely with the research team to review the acceptability of Project deliverables. The POG will also provide feedback or suggestions as appropriate regarding the progressing research.
This research will focus on International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) newly released standards (IFRS - IFRS S1 General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information and IFRS - IFRS S2 Climate-related Disclosures); analyzing insights from relevant literature, looking at the evolution of the standards, similarities, differences, and unique uses for each standard and regulation, as well as will look at areas for actuaries to get involved.
This research will broadly cover three areas: (1) IFRS S1 and S2 standards: Analyze in chronological order each standard of significance, distill the core principles and requirements, key similarities and differences, and main uses of each standard, including looking at the key dimensions across all standards, to highlight what S1 and S2 does and doesn’t include.
(2) Regulations: Analyze the regulatory guidelines of U.S., Canada, Europe, and the U.K regulatory requirements and technical guidance as well as map among the regulatory guidelines to ISSB S1/S2
 (3) Areas for Actuaries to get involved currently, or where they could be involved, in climate risk management and reporting in financial institutions
