Description:

How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?
This role supports the SOA Leadership & Development section, which is open to lifelong learners as well as those who are interested in improving their interpersonal skills and business savvy. The section's goal is to provide tools for personal and career development; guidance to new and developing managers; educational opportunities that build leadership skills; and opportunities to network.
Responsibilities & Duties
The Book Club hosts a virtual discussion over Zoom on a pre-selected book every 2 months. As the volunteer facilitator, you may select a book related to leadership and development. You will then be collaborating with other volunteer facilitators to plan for the virtual discussion with interested participants. The discussion format is up to the facilitators.
We suggest either:
1) a guided discussion where the facilitators share a few key takeaways from reading the book and application in real life and then invite the audience to share along or
2) utilize the break-out room function to allow for smaller groups to discuss on prepared questions. Depending on the desired format, we will match volunteers together for each session. The break-out room format requires more volunteers to help facilitate within the smaller groups. Any other format is welcomed.
We plan to finish the recruitment of the volunteers for 2025 and determine all book titles by the end December 2024. We also plan to have to a session dedicated to International Women's Day in March 2025.
