How does this role benefit the work of the organization and the profession?
This role supports the SOA’s professional development (PD) programs to empower actuaries and their employers now and in the future by providing a PD program focused on current and forward-looking technical and non-technical content and by making appropriate use of different instructional technologies and delivery modes to assure timely, broad access to PD programs. The Professional Development Committee (PDC) oversees SOA professional Development and ensures the programs provide high quality learning experiences. The PDC has overall responsibility for managing the design of the PD Curriculum including content, method of delivery, and resources provided to facilitate learning. The PDC works with other committees and volunteer groups that are primarily responsible for developing individual programs and content.
Responsibilities & Duties
• Participate in monthly meetings
• Identify, document, and facilitate the execution of the SOA’s PD program portfolio and curriculum.
• Ensure the PD curriculum and program offerings support the SOA’s DEI strategy in content, delivery, and choice of topics and presenters
• Assess and monitor emerging actuarial topics and employer needs and provide support for the development of educational content to fulfill those needs.
Time Commitment/Hours
21-40 hours
Time Commitment - Description *
• 3-year term • Monthly virtual committee meetings (60-90 min) • Opportunity for bi-annual in-person committee meetings/with virtual option
