This role supports the education and credential activities of the SOA, continually developing pertinent content, both foundational and advanced, to ensure the integrity of the SOA's credentials. The work can be used to satisfy continuing education requirements if deemed appropriate and it is a chance to give back and participate in the process of helping to develop and select new FSAs.
Description
The SOA is looking for actuaries with interest in quantitative financial and investment areas to write questions for Quantitative Finance and Investment (QFI) – Portfolio Management Exam which is offered twice each year.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Draft questions that will demonstrate candidates’ mastery of the Learning Objectives associated with a given topic or series of topics at various levels (e/t., recall, synthesis, application, etc.). Revise these questions under the direction and guidance of a Vice Chair.
- Grade the question later, if desirable, if it is on the exam (potential travel if not virtual)
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the SOA Education Confidentiality Agreement
Time Commitment
- Approximately 21-40 hours at home over a period of four months, from February to June.
- Two-year term, renewable
- Go over the materials assigned to you to create questions.
Experience Required
- Must be an FSA
- Investment and/or ALM job responsibilities and/or familiarity with Investment concepts is helpful but not required

Travel Required
- Item Writers with high quality questions may be invited to attend a meeting to assist with exam development.
- Item Writers will be given the opportunity to attend Central Grading.
SOA Training Required
Virtual Item Writer Training will be provided
