The Joint CAS/SOA Committee on Career Encouragement and Actuarial Diversity is responsible for promoting the actuarial profession among students and educators. With a focus on groups of people that are underrepresented within the profession, the committee is equally responsible for enhancing the diversity of the actuarial profession.
Responsibilities & Duties
Committee Duties
- Develop and execute a strategic marketing plan to promote the actuarial career among students, educators, and career influencers in high schools, colleges, and universities, including at least the following items:
- Seek opportunities to give presentations about the actuarial career at high schools and other venues.
- Respond to requests for informational interviews from those interested in the actuarial career
- Promote the actuarial profession at career fairs and exhibit halls
- Review and update marketing materials, especially the actuarial career website BeAnActuary.org for use in promoting the actuarial career.
- Engage with employers and actuarial associations to monitor career trends and target markets for recruiting candidates to the actuarial profession.
- Solicit and review applications from institutions seeking funding for actuarial summer programs, with emphasis on increasing the number of actuarial summer programs.
- Facilitate the diversity exam fee reimbursement program for underrepresented students.
- Collect data to measure the success of the committee’s activities
